The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center is a joint effort of Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh together with Westinghouse Electric Company. Established in 1986, PSC is supported by several federal agencies, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and private industry, and is a resource provider in the National Science Foundation TeraGrid program.

As a resource provider in the TeraGrid, a National Science Foundation program of coordinated cyberinfrastructure for education and research, PSC works with its TeraGrid partners to harness the full range of information technologies to enable discovery in U.S. science and engineering.

Established in 1986 as one of the original sites of the National Science Foundation's Supercomputer Centers Program, NCSA earned and maintains an international reputation for implementing experimental supercomputing and high-performance computing systems and networks and for developing innovative applications in high-performance computing, visualization, and desktop software.
NCSA is supported by the state of Illinois, the University of Illinois, the National Science Foundation, and grants from other federal agencies.
